Limudei Kodesh

Classes are conducted with a strong emphasis on developing חומש and מפרשים skills. Students learn to work with the sources independently and comfortably. Peer and group learning will be utilized, as well as project-based learning to launch the girls into the exhilarating world of Judaic research. Additionally,חומש is used as a springboard to teach many foundational concepts in  אמונה, בטחון, ויהדות. Our תפילה program is designed to accompany the girls through the מועדים and ימים טובים, as well as in their everyday lives. Girls become familiar with the davening, gain deeper insights in each תפילה, and learn to comfortably navigate the מחזור and סידור properly in shul. Our 10th grade Art and Tehillim program seeks to ingrain the timeless words of דוד המלך  into the נפש of our students, by combining learning and artistic expression. Girls simultaneously develop a love and appreciation for תהילים as well as develop their artistic skills and creativity.

General Studies

We are committed to providing rigorous, engaging, integrated instruction in Limudei Kodesh and General Studies. Our curriculum is designed to meet the requirements for a NY Regents diploma. In addition, we will be offering AP level and professional development classes. Our broad minded approach will nurture curiosity, confidence, and growth mindset skills to prepare our students for success beyond the classroom. We will achieve this by developing and refining our strategic thinking skills, analytical skills, writing, and public speaking skills.

Extra Curricular

The theme song, the school sweater, comedy skits, trips, the רוח and dancing....our fabulous student life program is overseen by Mrs. Shana Adler, who works alongside our students on all the extracurricular activities at ABY.

MISHMERES

Weekly programs and student-led learning related to הלכות שמירת הלשון .

Mishmeres is part of a worldwide Bais Yaakov High School initiative.

SHABBATON

School Shabbaton is an integral part of a girl’s high school experience. Ahavas has had unique opportunities to experience beautiful and inspiring שבתות in other communities and in the countryside, where we have the pleasure of engaging with the community, exploring new places, and building אחדות.

YEMEI IYUN

Ahavas Bais Yaakov emphasizes a love of Yiddishkeit and a love for the  ימים טובים. To quote R’ Dessler, “Time doesn’t pass us by, we must pass through time”. We are active participants in the מעגל השנה, and we place high priority on preparing for the ימים טובים  with workshops, panels, guest speakers and inspiration.

BHIS

Baruch Hashem It’s Shabbos! Erev Shabbos at Ahavas is fun-filled and heralds Shabbos in with games, music and kugel. Girls are motivated to strengthen their  כבוד  and קדושת שבת and a new goal is chosen each month. What better way to finish the year than with a  שבת שבוע עיון where Shabbos becomes the focus of the entire week through classes, guest speakers, and special activities.

TRIPS

An integral part of a high school girl’s experience, trips serve as the basis for exploring the

world and exploring new friendships. We believe in Sara Shneirer’s vision that Hashem can be found in the beautiful world around us. We give our girls opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and to experience exciting experiences throughout the year. Educational trips serve to bring the classroom to life, and trips to Gedolim give our girls the sense of נכבדות and worthiness.

V’HAAREV NA

The worldwide movement of “Chazara, Chazara, Un Nuch ah Mul Chazara ‘’ has created an

atmosphere of קניון המסכתא for thousands of talmidim. Borrowing from this approach, we want our girls to own their learning. We have an exciting program to incentivize and motivate our girls to review the extremely important subject of הלכה.

PRODUCTION

The friendships formed, the creativity expressed, the  כוחות הנפש revealed, the experiential learning...these are some of the values of a high school production. At Ahavas, we aim to create a masterpiece of the highest order, but one of our main goals with production is to have fun and unite.

STUDENT PUBLICATIONS

“Write something worth reading, or do something worth writing about.” These words were written by Benjamin Franklin and they encapsulate our student life experience. Within our cross-curricular, integrated curriculum, we offer opportunities for creativity and writing throughout the year. Our stellar faculty engages and pushes our students’ skills in producing our original and beautiful “In Her Words” publication.

CHESED

עולם חסד יבנה, and true to that we are building one project at a time. Aside from the emphasis placed on חסד on an individual level, Ahavas has school-based projects that are designed to help the community and get our girls involved in חסד.  We volunteer at some of the wonderful organizations that exist locally and in neighboring areas. We are excited to announce an innovative program where girls are taking extracurricular classes in various real-life skills like knife skills, art, and sewing, and implementing those skills for חסד based activities.

CHAGIGAH

Chanukah’s glow in the dark party, ice-skating party, Purim masquerade, surprise speakers, exciting games, carnival...our extracurricular program contains endless possibilities in how school can be enhanced, our students can shine, and the  רוח never stops.

ROSH CHODESH

Designated as a special  יום טוב for women, ראש חדש is a day to be celebrated and tapped into for the gift of התחדשות. We recap the month that ended and catch a glimpse of the new חדש ahead…and we treat ourselves to something special on this special day.

EXTRACURRICULAR CLASS

There is class…and there are extracurricular classes. A favorite at Ahavas, 9th grade enjoys TODA- Taste of Art and Design, and 10th grade enjoys Home and Health class. These courses involve culinary skills, art, interior design, photography, healthy cooking, sewing, nutrition and wellness, CPR, and gardening skills.

FRESHMAN WORKSHOP

Designed to help our 9th graders adjust to high school, freshman workshop addresses important topics such as digital safety, friendships and self-esteem, and student etiquette.
